However, I do feel there is room for intro rides & mileage tracking through a separate organization or regional club that might give getting started a little extra "juice". I am not for changing AERC. If it changes, what do we aspire to? The current decline in membership is most likely related to the ECONOMY more than anything else. Even people who try to be active somewhat in the sport are feeling the pinch.

Breaking into and fitting into the sport is probably the biggest hurdle I've faced. I understand riders wanting their hard work to be held up but as now second year AERC member it's hard to break into this sport if you don't get adopted by another rider. I was fortunate and got two starting foster riders and then adopted into a big ride family. I can't wait for every ride now but that first intro ride.. it's really scary to have those fast, well conditioned horses come up behind you. Scarier even to watch all the riders vet and crew and have no real clue what to do by yourself.

Dunno, rambled? But if their worried about members ship they need to at least hold more intro rides. There are only a couple a year at most in our whole region and newer riders may not yet be addicted enough to drive 4-6 hours for a ride.Caitlinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05459999598962107210noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4524393652028387960.post-32038881203859766802012-04-20T18:28:45.993-07:002012-04-20T18:28:45.993-07:00Great post!

Short rides are great for conditioning or building interest, but they shouldn't count for miles, etc. I think we're basically on the same page.Domhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00139769676714813261noreply@blogger.com
